October's Theme: Geek Spectacular!

It's October!

This month is all about you guys and what makes you geek out! We're having a Sew Geeky Weeky, meaning that there'll be posts all week from the 20th to the 26th with stuff sewn by you guys, sewn by us and just, I don't know, other people.

When we were coming up with themes for this year, there was a lot of discussion with our friends about things that made THEM get all geeky but didn't necessarily get either of us super into the idea. That totally sucked, because not all of our friends are anime buffs or Star Wars nerds, yet there was no way we were going to exclude them just because we had different fandoms! Part of being a nerd is being into things that other people are probably like "uh... yeh" which is pretty much 70% of how Sew Geeky came together; we wanted to OWN IT.

So don't be shy, what makes you geek out? Are you a Whovian? Do you get a thrill out of math puns? Maybe you just get super excited about the awesomeness of space? It doesn't necessarily have to be a pop culture reference, but it does have to be something that makes you sew geeky.

We love you guys! We want to see what you got!

Episode 6: Studio Ghibli

Guys. We have SO MANY amazing bloggers sewing a long with us this episode! We're so international.

This month is all about studio Ghibli! Studio Ghibli is the cornerstone of our movie collection at the Sew Chibi household.  For those of you wondering what the heck I'm talking about, Studio Ghibli is basically Japanese Disney, and the creator of most of the movies is a man by the name of Hayao Miyazaki.  A virtuoso of animation and storytelling, Miyazaki's movies are, in a word, e n c h a n t i n g.   Some of the most popular films are My Neighbor Totoro, Ponyo, Spirited Away, Princess Mononoke but there are many many more. Our offerings this month include some delightful guests!  Check out a little of what they’ve done below and be sure to check out the full posts on all of our blogs, plus a couple of giveaways!

Kat of Sew Chibi whipped up a whole slew of wearables for her girls! Nausicaa, Howl's Moving Castle & Princess Mononoke! Check it out and enter the Brindille and Twig giveaway.

Episode 5: Marvel vs DC

This month's Sew Geeky theme is MARVEL VS DC! It's an age old battle since the dawn of time, which is better Marvel or DC Comics? To tell you the truth we don't think it needs to be a contest, they're both comics and if you're into either then you're pretty rad in our (comic)book.

However in saying that, Ari is a die-hard DC Girl! What about you? Who's your favourite superhero or super villain? Why? Read on to see our heroic lineup and see what our villainous creations this month! We had a lot of fun with our line up extraordinary guests!

Check out Ari's almost literal Deadpool outfit for Vin and the Aquaman inspired outfit for Eddie

Hey Guys!

It's Ari! aka Max California. We've decided to have a 'hub' or a home for all our Sew Geeky adventures. It will make it easier to have all the information in one place, as well as help build our little nerderiffic community! We'll be back dating posts shortly, making sure that all our Sew Geeky episodes that we have done so far as well as those of you who have sewn along with us are all chronicled here! We're opening up Linky Parties for every theme, they'll never expire so if you've made something within one of the themes please link up! We're hoping that this little place will soon be your go-to spot for getting your geek fix!

And yeh, it's REALLY pink at the moment. It's totally a work in progress here, so just... you know, don't adjust your tv sets because everything will be in order real soon!

Episode 4: Classic Anime

The month's episode of Sew Geeky was themed Classic Anime and was first announced over on our facebook page. Starting all the way back to Astro Boy, we are celebrating the animes of yesteryear that make the genre what it is today (think Cowboy Bebop, Sailor Moon, Akira, Trigun, Dragonball Z, Inyuasha...)

We have a handful of giveaways this month too, so check them out on Kat and Ari's blogs, you gotta be in them to win them! You can win the following PDF Patterns: Hosh Pants and Doli Tank by LouBeeClothing and a Skater Dress by KitschyCoo! Huge love for our ladies who so graciously made these available to us this month!

Our special guest this month was Celina of Petit a Petit and Family who sewed up this super adorable AstroBoy swimsuit for her son! We can't get over how perfect he is as Astro!

Click through to see more photos, leave some comment love and find out more about the outfit! Celina is the brains behind so many cool things, including STYLO magazine (which both of us here at Sew Geeky were honoured enough to be a part of their maiden issue!)

Akira became, of course, Kaneda from the anime she was named after! AKIRA! Check out her tiny little outfit and all the HILARIOUS photos right here, yo!

Eddie was transformed into Sailor Chibi Chibi Moon, check out her epic pose! Click here to see the rest of her outfit & enter to win a Skater Dress PDF Pattern thanks to Kitschy Coo!

Look it's Luffy! Sephira stars in this episode as our hero from classic anime One Piece! She's gonna be the Pirate King, more pics and details right here.

Gotta catch 'em all! And why wouldn't you with a Pokemon that is THIS cute? Check out the Pikachu onesie that Vincent will not take off over here

Last but certainly not least is beautiful Azy as Cardcaptor Sakura. You can see all the beautiful photos and a close up of those epicly perfect wings on Sew Chibi right here!

Sew Geeky Themes

Want to sew with us, or just want to know what theme we will be sewing for ahead of time? Here's our Sew Geeky Theme Schedule. We'll update this regularly as we finalise our ideas. Is there a theme you like that's not here /yet/? Leave a suggestion in the comments below!

August: Marvel vs DC Comics
this speaks for itself! Choose your favourite hero, or villain!
September: Studio Ghibli
Think Ponyo, My Neighbour Totoro and Spirited Away
October: Geek Spectacular
What are YOU geeky about? Is it something we've already done? Doesn't matter, go WILD
November: Epic Fantasy
We're talking Game of Thrones or Lord of the Rings. If it's fantasy, and it's epic, sew it up!
December: Tim Burton
Put Mr. Burton's iconic strangeness onto your things! Nightmare before Christmas, Alice in Wonderland or even Sweeney Todd!
January: Adult Swim
It's definitely aimed more at us than for the children, but we're so in love with the Regular Show, Adventure Time or the Venture Brothers - we had to make this a theme!

Miss something? Here's our past themes!

2014
May: Star Wars
We celebrated Star Wars day with a Stormtrooper, Luke and Leia an Imperial Guard, then followed it up later that month with a Creatures of Star Wars mini special which included a Raincor (Rancor Raincoat), Wampa playmat and a Bantha hoodie!
June: Tank Girl
Feelin' a little inadequate? Just because we're all 'grown-up' now and are supposed to be responsible mamas it doesn't mean that we don't still have some rebellious attitude still inside! Check out our two Tank Girls as well TG's besties Jet Girl and Sub Girl as we celebrate the iconic badass babe with two guests!
July: Classic Anime!
From Astroboy to Cardcaptor Sakura to Sailor Moon, we covered the basics of the classic anime you fell in love with when you were first introduced to the best of Japanese cartoons! Check out the full post for One Piece, Akira and Pokemon too!

2013
May: 8 Bit Babies
Sonic the Hedgehog, Nyan Cat and Tac Nayn, we payed homage to our favourite 8 bit videogames!
